12:24 PM EST, 01/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Chevron ( CVX ) said Thursday it will start oil production from the Whale semi-submersible platform in the US Gulf of Mexico.

The oil company's Chevron USA unit owns a 40% stake in Whale, while Shell's (SHEL) Shell Offshore unit holds the remaining interest as operator, according to Chevron ( CVX ).

Chevron ( CVX ) said it expects peak production of 100,000 gross barrels of oil equivalent per day from up to 15 wells in the first phase of development.
