08:51 AM EST, 01/21/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Chevron ( CVX ) has expressed interest in an open exploration block managed by Greece's Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company, multiple news outlets reported Monday, citing the country's energy ministry.
The proposed area reportedly stretches from southwest of the Peloponnese to west of Crete, with a decision on the specific location expected this week.
The news outlets quoted the ministry as saying Chevron ( CVX ), which has operations in Israel, Egypt, and Cyprus, stated that the Eastern Mediterranean is a key focus for its plans.
Greece aims to expand its exploration area by 25% as part of broader efforts to reduce reliance on Russian gas and boost domestic energy production, the media outlets added, referencing the Greek energy ministry.
Chevron ( CVX ) and the Greek energy ministry did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
