Citigroup Seeks Dismissal of Racial Bias Lawsuit on ATM fees
Jul 11, 2024 12:02 PM

02:32 PM EDT, 07/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Citigroup ( C ) asked a judge to dismiss a lawsuit alleging its ATM fee waiver for customers of minority-owned banks constitutes racial discrimination.

"While Citibank's ATMs require a user to enter his or her personal PIN, they do not ask any user to enter their race," Citigroup ( C ) lawyers said in a motion filed Wednesday in US District Court, Southern District of Florida, Fort Lauderdale division.

The lawsuit claims non-Citigroup ( C ) customers were harmed because they paid fees for out-of-network ATM withdrawals while minority-owned banks' customers didn't.

Citigroup ( C ) shares fell 1.5% in recent trading.
