04:23 PM EDT, 05/01/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Coca-Cola (KO) shareholders on Wednesday turned down a proposal for the beverage company to issue third-party reports on the potential health risk from the use of non-sugar sweeteners.
The proposal received only 10.74% of investor support at Coca-Cola, according to a Capital IQ transcript of the company's shareholder call following the vote.
The proposal received just 11% of investor support at PepsiCo ( PEP ), according to a Bloomberg report. PepsiCo ( PEP ) did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
"No additional third-party assessment can usefully contribute to the abundant reporting and scientific assessments that have already been issued by the most credible food safety bodies and regulatory authorities around the world," Coca-Cola Chair and Chief Executive James Robert Quincey said during the call. "Across the board, these third-party assessments reaffirm the safety of nonsugar sweeteners."
