Comcast Beats Second-Quarter Estimates Amid Record Wireless Subscriber Jump
Jul 31, 2025 11:35 AM

02:05 PM EDT, 07/31/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Comcast's ( CMCSA ) second-quarter results came in stronger than Wall Street's estimates as the media and connectivity giant reported the biggest quarterly jump in wireless subscribers on record.

Adjusted per-share earnings rose to $1.25 for the June quarter from $1.21 a year earlier, defying expectations for a decline to $1.16. Revenue grew 2.1% year on year to $30.31 billion, higher the FactSet-polled consensus of $29.8 billion.

Domestic wireless lines increased by a record 378,000, compared with the Street's forecast of 345,000 net additions. The increase was more than 322,000 net adds Comcast ( CMCSA ) reported last year. Domestic broadband customers fell by 226,000, higher than a 120,000 decline last year but lower than a 256,000 drop modeled by analysts.

"Our wireless lines have now reached 8.5 million and penetration of 14% of our residential broadband customer base, a rate that demonstrates both our success in entrenching our product as a competitive offering in the wireless industry, but also that highlights the tremendous runway we have ahead," Chief Financial Officer Jason Armstrong said at an earnings call, according to a FactSet transcript.

Comcast ( CMCSA ) shares were up 3.1% in Thursday trade.

The decline in broadband subscribers reflect an "intense" competitive environment and typical negative seasonality in the second quarter, Armstrong told analysts. Still, the company's new go-to-market initiatives drove "some early signs of stabilization in both connect activity and voluntary churn," he said.

Comcast's ( CMCSA ) second-quarter revenue in the connectivity and platforms segment, which includes broadband, wireless and video, rose 0.7% year on year to $20.39 billion. Content and experiences revenue grew 5.6% to $10.63 billion, driven by gains in theme parks and studios.

Last week, Charter Communications ( CHTR ) said its second-quarter results rose annually, but that it lost more than 100,000 of internet subscribers.
