02:49 PM EDT, 09/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Comcast ( CMCSA ) and Ciena (CIEN) said Tuesday that 5131 Coherent Access Platform is being deployed to extend fiber coverage in underserved areas more efficiently.

The service enables 100 gigabits per second connectivity over distances beyond 100 kilometers to support homes, businesses, and community institutions, according to a statement.

The companies added that this will assist Comcast's ( CMCSA ) Rural Broadband and BEAD initiatives to expand access in unserved and underserved areas.
