07:27 AM EDT, 09/20/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Constellation Energy ( CEG ) said Friday it signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Microsoft ( MSFT ) , enabling the launch of the Crane Clean Energy Center and the restart of Three Mile Island Unit 1, which shut down five years ago.

Under the agreement, Microsoft ( MSFT ) will purchase carbon-free energy from the plant for its data centers.

The company intends to make significant upgrades to the plant and expects operations to resume in 2028, pending regulatory approvals.

Additionally, through a separate request, Constellation will pursue a license renewal, extending plant operations to at least 2054.

The facility will be renamed in honor of nuclear industry leader Chris Crane, it added.
