06:12 AM EDT, 08/29/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Automotive consulting firm J.D. Power lowered its forecast for 2024 electric vehicle sales in the US due to a slower-than-expected growth in the first half of the year amid increased competition with gasoline-powered vehicles, media outlets reported Wednesday, citing a report from J.D. Power.
The firm now expects US electric vehicles to account for 9% of sales in the US this year, compared with its previous 12% forecast, the reports said.
The lower outlook followed a string of delayed or cancelled electric models from carmakers such as Ford Motor ( F ) and General Motors ( GM ) , these reports said.
Reuters said J.D. Power still expects electric vehicles to reach 36% of the US market by 2030.
J.D. Power, Ford Motor ( F ), and General Motors ( GM ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
