08:24 AM EDT, 06/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Core Natural Resources ( CNR ) said Monday it had to evacuate its Leer South mine Friday due to an increase in carbon monoxide levels.
The mining company said it is working closely with federal and state officials on a plan to recover and reposition equipment, which it said it expects will take up to four months to be completed.
The mine, located in West Virginia, had been reopened June 10 after being shut down for six months following a "combustion-related event," the company said.
Shares of Core Natural Resources ( CNR ) were down nearly 3% in recent Monday premarket activity.
