12:52 PM EDT, 07/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Corning's (GLW) commitments to address competition concerns related to its Gorilla Glass break-resistant glass used as cover glass in smartphones and other handheld devices have been accepted by the European Commission, the company and regulator said Friday.
"We can confirm that the European Commission's investigation has been settled with no fine, no finding of wrongdoing by Corning, and no material impact to the company's Gorilla Glass business or the company at large," a Corning spokesperson told MT Newswires.
"Corning has cooperated with the European Commission to address the Commission's preliminary concerns while maintaining our ability to compete for any portion of our customers' requirements for cover glass and enforce our IP rights," the spokesperson added.
In a separate statement, the Commission said Corning committed to waive all exclusive dealing clauses in current agreements with manufacturers of handheld electronic devices and glass processing companies, as well as remove certain purchasing clauses.
The Commission said it has made the company's final commitments legally binding and that these will be in force for nine years globally.
