Coronavirus impact: Dharavi's potters witness drop in demand for festive pots and handmade diyas

Kumbharwada in Mumbai's Dharavi is well known for producing colourful, festive pots and handmade diyas both in the domestic and export markets, but is witnessing a lacklustre Diwali this year.

A substantial drop in demand due to the coronavirus pandemic and the rise in the cost of raw material following the subsequent lockdown has pushed the community of potters in Kumbharwada to the brink.
