WASHINGTON, March 23 (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court
on Monday declined to hear CoStar Group's ( CSGP ) bid to throw
out antitrust claims lodged by real estate data provider
Commercial Real Estate Exchange in a long-running legal fight
between the rival companies.
Here are some details:
* The justices ruled without comment, keeping in place a
lower appeals court decision that allowed CREXi's case to
proceed.
* CREXi is seeking an unspecified amount of damages for lost
revenue and profits based on its claims that CoStar ( CSGP ) violated
antitrust law by locking real estate brokers into using its data
platforms and blocking rivals from accessing key web tools.
* CoStar ( CSGP ) has denied any wrongdoing, saying it has no
obligation to provide competitors access to its websites and
databases.
* California-based CREXi made its antitrust allegations as
counterclaims against CoStar ( CSGP ) in a copyright lawsuit that CoStar ( CSGP )
lodged against CREXi in 2020.
* CoStar's ( CSGP ) ongoing lawsuit accuses CREXi of deliberately
copying tens of thousands of CoStar ( CSGP ) photos of real estate
properties in an alleged copyright infringement scheme.
* CoStar ( CSGP ) said in a statement that CREXi's "antitrust
counterclaims are a sideshow to CoStar Group's ( CSGP ) underlying mass
copyright infringement claims against CREXi" and that the
allegations will not delay the infringement trial.
