04:50 PM EDT, 09/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Costco Wholesale's ( COST ) fiscal fourth-quarter earnings rose more than expected while the warehouse chain's revenue fell short of Wall Street's estimates.

Per-share earnings rose to $5.29 during the 16 weeks ended Sept. 1 from $4.86 a year earlier, compared with the $5.06 consensus on Capital IQ. Revenue increased to $79.7 billion from $78.94 billion, but trailed the market's $80.03 billion view.

Comparable sales rose 5.4% in the 16-week period, Costco said. The metric rose 5.3% in the US and 5.5% in Canada. The company's e-commerce sales advanced nearly 19%.

Merchandise costs edged higher to $69.59 billion from $69.22 billion a year earlier.
