COVID is an opportunity for us to digitise India: Sanjiv Mehta of HUL
Aug 28, 2020 2:23 PM

This is an opportunity for us to digitise the whole nation and "we should not let go waste”, said Sanjiv Mehta, Chairman & MD of HUL.

“The second what you rightly said is e-everything, online connecting, communicating, working, shopping, educating and entertaining and this I believe is a massive opportunity for the country. This is an opportunity for us to digitize the whole nation. This is an opportunity we should not let go waste.”

He added, “That stay at home economy which mean home cooking, home entertainment, home exercise and working from home, and this I don’t think will continue once we have a vaccine. The way it is today and I also firmly believe that let us not write the obituary of working from office, but very importantly that there would be a hybrid model which will come into play so this is one.”

“The other important bit which I believe is bound to stay and will not go away is clean living. There is a fetish for cleaning, cleansing, clean living so there are products and services which are often sanitized, sterilized and disinfecting and anti-bacterial, anti-viral, antiseptic."

"As a consumer goods company we used to spend crore of rupees every year trying to inculcate the habit of washing hands with soap at least five times a day, right at the moment. I think the world has conspired to bring about a change without our investment. This is a right for society that is prevent you from even normal illness like flu and etc. and make you much more healthy, so this is something I don’t think it will remain at an obsessive level but it is bound to continue.”

CNBC-TV18's Shereen Bhan spoke to Sanjiv Mehta, Chairman & MD of HUL, to discuss future and the road ahead.
