08:58 AM EDT, 07/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- CrowdStrike Holdings ( CRWD ) said Wednesday that a bug in its Content Validator led to Windows operating system crashes on Friday.
The issue arose after "two additional [InterProcessCommunication] Template Instances were deployed," with one containing problematic content data that passed validation, CrowdStrike ( CRWD ) said in its preliminary post incident review report.
This faulty data caused "an out-of-bounds memory read, triggering an exception" resulting in Blue Screen of Death, or BSOD, crashes when loaded into the content interpreter.
The problem was linked to Channel File 291 and had been undetected due to prior trust in the validation checks and successful previous deployments, the company said.
The CrowdStrike ( CRWD ) glitch on Friday caused outages affecting millions of Microsoft (MSFT) Windows devices, disrupting various industries, including global air travel.
CrowdStrike ( CRWD ) shares were 1.4% higher in recent Wednesday premarket activity.
