03:04 PM EDT, 09/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Deere (DE) agreed to pay nearly $10 million to settle claims that its Thai subsidiary engaged in improper conduct to win government business, according to a copy of the settlement available Tuesday.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission said the company's Wirtgen Thailand unit made "improper payments" from 2017 to 2020 to foreign officials at multiple government entities, including the Royal Thai Air Force and the Department of Highways, to win business.
Wirtgen Thailand also engaged in commercial bribery during the same period, the SEC said.
Wirtgen Thailand's actions resulted in an "improper benefit" of $4.3 million to Deere and violated the books and records and internal accounting controls provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the SEC said.
Deere did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
