08:23 AM EDT, 07/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Delta Air Lines ( DAL ) canceled more flights on Sunday as it continues to recover its systems and restore operations following an IT outage Friday caused by a faulty software update, the carrier's chief executive officer, Ed Bastian, wrote in a blog post published late Sunday.
Bastian said the "outside vendor technology issue" forced the company to cancel more than 3,500 Delta and Delta Connection flights, and that cancellations continue while the company works to recover its systems and restore its operations.
Bastian said Delta has "significant number" of applications that run on the impacted Microsoft Windows operating system, including crew tracking-related tools, which are unable to "effectively process the unprecedented number of changes triggered by the system shutdown."
