07:37 AM EDT, 09/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Walt Disney's ( DIS ) ABC has suspended late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live indefinitely after Kimmel made comments about the killing of Republican influencer Charlie Kirk, the network said Thursday.
During the Monday show, Kimmel accused Republicans of trying to "score political points" from Kirk's killing, multiple media outlets reported.
A network spokesperson said Wednesday that the show will be "preempted indefinitely." Prior to this announcement, Federal Communications Commission Brendan Carr called for Kimmel's suspension, according to a statement.
Kimmel had planned to address the backlash on his show Wednesday and rehearsed the program that morning, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing a person with knowledge of the matter.
Nexstar Media (NXST) and Sinclair (SBGI) said Wednesday that they had decided to indefinitely preempt the show. Nexstar said it will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets, while Sinclair (SBGI) said its ABC stations will air a Charlie Kirk special during the Jimmy Kimmel Live's timeslot on Friday.
Disney ( DIS ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
