09:09 AM EST, 12/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Dollar Tree ( DLTR ) tightened its full-year earnings outlook range on Wednesday as it reported better-than-expected fiscal third-quarter results, while the discount retailer said Jeff Davis will step down as its finance chief.
Per-share adjusted earnings are now set to come in between $5.31 and $5.51 for fiscal 2024, compared with the previous guidance of $5.20 to $5.60. Sales are pegged at $30.7 billion to $30.9 billion, reflecting a slightly higher bottom end versus the company's prior forecast of $30.6 billion. The current consensus on FactSet is for non-GAAP EPS of $5.39 and revenue of $30.7 billion.
Dollar General continues to expect comparable store sales to grow by low-single digits for the ongoing fiscal year. It also reiterated its low-single-digit growth outlook for its Dollar Tree ( DLTR ) and Family Dollar segments. The stock rose 2.1% in premarket activity.
The retailer reported adjusted EPS of $1.12 for the three-month period ended Nov. 2, up from $0.97 the year before, topping the Street's view for $1.07. Sales improved 3.5% year over year to $7.56 billion, ahead of analysts' $7.45 billion estimate.
Same-store sales inclined 1.8%, surpassing the 1.3% gain modeled by the Street at the enterprise level. Dollar Tree ( DLTR ) and Family Dollar comparable sales advanced 1.8% and 1.9%, respectively, with traffic boosting both segments.
"Our Dollar Tree ( DLTR ) and Family Dollar merchandising efforts produced tangible results, and our third-quarter sales came in at the high-end of our expected range," interim Chief Executive Mike Creedon said in a statement. "As an organization, our top priorities remain accelerating the growth of the Dollar Tree ( DLTR ) segment, completing the Family Dollar strategic review process, and unlocking value for Dollar Tree ( DLTR ) shareholders."
For the current quarter, the retailer sees adjusted EPS at $2.10 to $2.30, while sales are forecast to be in a range of $8.1 billion to $8.3 billion. FactSet analysts are estimating non-GAAP EPS of $2.23 and revenue of $8.23 billion. Enterprise same-store sales are expected to rise by a low single digit.
Additionally, Dollar Tree ( DLTR ) announced that Davis will leave his role as chief financial officer while the company has launched an external search process for his successor. Davis, who was named the company's CFO in August 2022, will remain with the retailer through the filing of its fiscal 2024 Form 10-K.
Davis' departure comes after Rick Dreiling stepped down as chief executive of Dollar Tree ( DLTR ) last month due to health reasons. At the time, the company said it will evaluate internal and external candidates for Dreiling's permanent successor, as Creedon assumed the post on an interim basis.
