10:48 AM EDT, 04/01/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Dominion Energy ( D ) Virginia said Tuesday it filed requests with the Virginia State Corporation Commission for new base and fuel rates.
The company proposed increasing residential base rates by $8.51 per month in 2026 and $2.00 per month in 2027, marking the first base rate increase since 1992 if approved. It also proposed shifting power capacity costs from the base rate to the annual fuel rate, reallocating costs.
This shift, along with higher fuel prices and cold weather costs from early 2025, would result in a $10.92 monthly fuel rate increase for a typical customer. Dominion said it does not earn a profit on fuel or power capacity costs.
If approved, the fuel rate change would take effect July 1, 2025, and base rate increases on Jan. 1, 2026, and Jan. 1, 2027.
The company also proposed a new rate class for high energy users, including data centers, requiring a 14-year commitment to cover power costs.
