DoT to issue fresh notices to telecom companies for non-payment of full AGR dues
Feb 20, 2020 7:18 AM

The department of telecom (DoT) will issue fresh notices to telecom companies for non-payment of adjusted gross revenues (AGR) dues, according to people in the know.

Bharti Airtel has so far paid Rs 10,000 crore against Rs 35,000 crore dues under AGR. Vodafone Idea has paid about Rs 2,500 crore and today there has been one more payment from Vodafone Idea of Rs 1,000 crore. So far Vodafone Idea has only paid about Rs 3,500 crore against AGR dues of about Rs 54,000 crore. Tata Teleservices has paid about Rs 2,100 crore against dues of Rs 14,000 crore.

The DoT is now expected to send notices to all these companies to pay up their dues. The next hearing with regards to AGR dues in Supreme Court (SC) is on March 17. It is noteworthy that February 14 was the last date of making all the payments.

CNBC-TV18 also reported that DoT is seeking legal opinion on bank guarantee encashment that is yet to be provided. As of now, there is no clarity whether DoT will go ahead with the encashment of bank guarantee.
