The Ministry of Civil Aviation is working on allowing drones to transport organs such as kidneys, hearts, lungs from one hospital to another under its digital sky framework.

The move will be part of the government's attempt at providing an obstacle-free air corridor for use of drones, Aviation Minister Jayant Sinha told reporters on Thursday.

"Today for this, you have to establish a green corridor on ground and then allow it to happen ... what we can do is we can set up a drone port at hospitals and create an air corridor that enables drones to operate between these hospitals and transport organs," Sinha said, adding that a lot of pilots have already been conducted.

The government plans to legalise nano drones from December 1 with the unveiling of unmanned traffic management platform for drones called Digital Sky. A draft on the upgrade of this is likely to follow in January.

"Drone task force will shortly release a white paper which lays out regulatory framework which will then allow us to establish CAR. That is going to happen shortly. Once that is in the public domain, we will formulate the draft CAR and that will come in January," Sinha said on Drone policy 2.0.
