Drunk woman on Air India Mumbai-London flight jailed after abusing and spitting at crew, says report
Apr 5, 2019 1:07 PM

A drunk woman on a long haul Mumbai-London Air India flight was jailed for eight months after abusing and spitting at a crew member, reported The Independent.

On a Mumbai-London bound flight, Simone Burns abused the crew of the plane after she was denied a fourth bottle of wine, just an hour into the flight, the report added.

Judge Nicholas Wood of Isleworth Crown Court while sentencing the 50-year old Burns said, “The experience of a drunk and irrational person in the confines of an aircraft is frightening, not least on a long-haul flight and poses a potential risk to safety. You were drunk and obnoxious almost from the beginning to the end. You were abusive, contemptuous and confrontational and used appalling language.”

Apart from the jail term, Burns, who pleaded guilty to the incident that occurred in November last year, has been asked to pay a compensation of 300 pounds to the crew member she abused and assaulted, the report added.
