04:29 AM EDT, 05/29/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Elanco Animal Health ( ELAN ) said Tuesday that the US Food and Drug Administration has determined that Bovaer, its methane-reducing feed additive, meets safety and efficacy rules for use in dairy cattle.

The finding follows a years-long scientific review, the company said. The ingredient suppresses a cow stomach enzyme that results in methane and can help contribute to climate-neutral dairy farming, it added.

"Feeding one million cows Bovaer would reduce emissions equivalent to removing more than 285,000 cars from the road for a year," the company said.
