Elon Musk Sought Meta CEO Zuckerberg's Help for OpenAI Bid, Court Filing Shows
Aug 22, 2025 3:19 AM

06:10 AM EDT, 08/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Tesla (TSLA) Chief Executive Elon Musk tried to enlist Meta Platforms ( META ) CEO Mark Zuckerberg for an unsolicited bid that his consortium made to buy Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) startup OpenAI earlier this year, OpenAI said in a Thursday court filing.

Musk identified Zuckerberg as one of the people with whom he had communicated about potentially financing a deal to purchase the parent of generative artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT, though Zuckerberg didn't come on board, according to the filing.

OpenAI has requested a federal judge to order Meta to produce documents and communications pertaining to any bid for the startup, and those "concerning any actual or potential restructuring or recapitalization of OpenAI," the filing showed.

A jury trial has been slated for spring next year, according to the document.

OpenAI, Tesla, and Meta didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
