04:07 PM EDT, 06/26/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Emerita Resources ( EMOTF ) said Thursday afternoon it filed an appeal challenging a May 30 decision by Spanish authorities to grant the mining permit for the Aznalcollar project to Minera Los Frailes.
In the appeal, Emerita claims that Minera Los Frailes did not take part in the public tender for the project and should not have received the permit. There is no official authorization giving Minera Los Frailes rights to the project, as required by Spanish law.
The company also alleged it was unclear who submitted the project in the original tender, Minorbis or a consortium comprised of Grupo Mexico with Minorbis, raising concerns about inconsistencies in the submitted plans. Also, there were multiple breaches of mining and administrative regulations, it added.
Emerita argues that the permit should be declared null and void and said that it will continue to take all necessary legal actions to protect its interests and those of its shareholders.
Emerita shares closed up $0.03 to $1.32 on the TSX Venture Exchange.
