02:29 PM EST, 02/20/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Enbridge ( ENB ) can continue its plan to build a protective tunnel in the Great Lakes area, the Michigan Court of Appeals ruled after environmental groups and tribes challenged the project's approval.
The court upheld the Michigan Public Service Commission's decision to issue permits for the project, according to a decision published Wednesday.
The groups and tribes had alleged that the commission acted inconsistently in approving the project with regard to evidence regarding the public need for continued operation of the pipeline, according to the ruling.
Enbridge ( ENB ) is planning to build a protective tunnel around a section of its Line 5 pipeline beneath the Straits of Mackinac, which link Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.
