Analysts surveyed by FactSet expected $2.06.
Revenue for the quarter ended June 30 was $893 million, up from $852.9 million a year earlier.
Analysts polled by FactSet expected $849 million.
The company expects fiscal Q2 adjusted earnings of $2.33 to $2.43 per share on revenue of $870 million to $910 million. Analysts surveyed by FactSet expect adjusted earnings of $2.36 on revenue of $901.2 million.
The board approved a $1 billion increase to the company's stock repurchase authorization, bringing the total to $1.06 billion. It also raised the quarterly dividend by 9% to $0.2625 per share, payable Sept. 26 to shareholders of record as of Sept. 12.
