Epic Games Seeks to Force Google to Open Play Store to Competition
Apr 12, 2024 6:56 AM

09:18 AM EDT, 04/12/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Video game maker Epic Games has urged a California judge require Alphabet's (GOOG) Google ( GOOG ) to make its Play Store more available to competitors who want to use the platform to distribute Android apps and billing services.

In a filing Thursday in US District Court in San Francisco, Epic said it was seeking to prevent Google ( GOOG ) from using contractual provisions, guidelines or policies, or imposing technical restrictions to prevent or deter the distribution of Android apps through channels other than Google's ( GOOG ) Play Store. The proposal would also prohibit Google ( GOOG ) from taking "retaliatory actions" against Epic over its complaint.

Representatives for Google ( GOOG ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
