Essar Ports is looking to enhance its port handling capacity to 110 million tonne per annum (mtpa) at Vizag terminal.
Essar Group on Friday commissioned the country's largest iron ore handling complex at Vizag port which was built at a cost of Rs 830 crore.
"We have put about Rs 860 crore in creating this facility," said Rajiv Agarwal, MD & CEO Essar Ports Ltd.
Basically, it was an existing facility which was tendered out to Essar by way of public-private partnership (PPP) project and the job was to upgrade this whole facility and operate it for 30 years, Agarwal said.
“It has a loading capacity of 8,000 tonne per hour and apart from that it also has a very good rail receiving facility,” he added.
The company is looking at a liquid bulk and liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Hazira Port, Agarwal said, adding that Paradip terminal development is also on the anvil.
