06:40 AM EDT, 03/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission said Monday it opened a sweeping investigation into Meta Platforms ( META ) , Apple ( AAPL ) , and Alphabet's Google for non-compliance under the bloc's Digital Markets Act.
The Commission said it is looking into "Alphabet's rules on steering in Google Play and self-preferencing on Google Search, Apple's ( AAPL ) rules on steering in the App Store and the choice screen for Safari and Meta's 'pay or consent model'."
According to the Commission, Meta, Apple ( AAPL ) and Google could face fines of up to 10% of their worldwide turnover.
None of the tech companies immediately responded to MT Newswires' request for comment.
