11:03 AM EDT, 05/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- European equities traded in the US as American depositary receipts rose late Thursday morning, gaining 0.35% to 1,403.4 on the S&P Europe Select ADR Index.
From continental Europe, the gainers were led by electronics company Philips (PHG) and biotech firm BioNTech (BNTX), which rose 5.4% and 3% respectively. They were followed by oil and gas company TotalEnergies (TTE) and health-care company Grifols ( GRFS ) , which increased 1.8% and 1.5% respectively.
The decliners from continental Europe were led by financial services company Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria ( BBVA ) and biopharmaceutical company argenx (ARGX), which fell 5.8% and 3.6% respectively. They were followed by semiconductor company Sequans Communications ( SQNS ) and telecommunications company VEON (VEON), which dropped 2.9% and 1.1% respectively.
From the UK and Ireland, the gainers were led by biopharmaceutical company Adaptimmune Therapeutics ( ADAP ) and pharmaceutical company Silence Therapeutics ( SLN ) , which rose 5.3% and 3.1% respectively. They were followed by biotech firm Autolus Therapeutics ( AUTL ) and insurance company Prudential (PUK), which were up 3% and 2.2% respectively.
The decliners from the UK and Ireland were led by biopharmaceutical company NuCana ( NCNA ) and pharmaceutical company Avadel Pharmaceuticals ( AVDL ) , which dropped 9.3% and 6% respectively. They were followed by software firm Endava ( DAVA ) and biopharmaceutical company TC Biopharm ( TCBP ) , which were down 3.7% and 2.4% respectively.
