08:34 AM EST, 12/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust ( SPY ) was up 0.1% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) retreated marginally by 0.01% in Tuesday's premarket activity as markets traded mixed ahead of the influential Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey for October.
US stock futures were also mixed, with S&P 500 Index futures up 0.02%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 0.1%, and Nasdaq futures retreating 0.1% before the start of regular trading.
The October Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS, from Washington will be released at 10 am ET.
Federal Reserve Governor Adriana Kugler is scheduled to speak at 12:35 pm ET, while Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee will speak at 1:30 pm ET and 3:45 pm ET.
In premarket activity, bitcoin was down by 0.9% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 0.8% lower.

Consumer
The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) was up 0.02%, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) was down 1.3%. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF ( IYK ) was inactive, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) lost 0.1%. The VanEck Retail ETF ( RTH ) was inactive, while the SPDR S&P Retail ETF ( XRT ) gained 0.3%
Cheetah Net Supply Chain Service ( CTNT ) shares were up more than 300% pre-bell after the company said late Monday it signed definitive agreements to acquire labor and logistics service provider TW & EW Services for $200,000 in cash and $800,000 in unregistered Class A Cheetah common shares.

Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) gained 0.1%, and the iShares US Technology ETF ( IYW ) was marginally higher by 0.02%, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF ( IGM ) was up 0.4%. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF ( XSD ) rose 1.1%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) advanced by 0.3%.
Zscaler ( ZS ) shares were down more than 7% in recent Tuesday premarket activity after the company said that Chief Financial Officer Remo Canessa will retire, effective upon the appointment of a successor.
Health Care
The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLV ) retreated 0.03%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund ( VHT ) declined by 0.2% while the iShares US Healthcare ETF ( IYH ) and the iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) were inactive.
Rhythm Pharmaceuticals ( RYTM ) stock was up 3.2% premarket after the company said that the UK's Medicines & Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency has expanded the marketing authorization for Imcivree to include the treatment of obesity and control of hunger associated with Bardet-Biedl syndrome or biallelic pro-opiomelanocortin in patients aged two years and up.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLI ) advanced 0.04% while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund ( VIS ) and the iShares US Industrials ETF ( IYJ ) were inactive.
Pentair ( PNR ) stock was down more than 2% before the opening bell after the company said it had acquired G&F Manufacturing for about $108 million in cash at closing, subject to certain adjustments.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) advanced 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares ( FAS ) was up 0.6%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares ( FAZ ) was 0.4% lower.

TotalEnergies (TTE) stock was up 1.3% before Tuesday's opening bell after Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter, that the company is close to acquiring VSB Group from private equity firm Partners Group Holding for 2 billion euros ($2.10 billion).

Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil advanced 1.6% to $69.21 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas fell 2.6% to $3.13 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund ( USO ) gained nearly 1%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund ( UNG ) fell 2.7%.
Gold futures for February were up 0.2% at $2,663.70 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures gained 1.5% to reach $31.33 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares ( GLD ) advanced 0.1%, while the iShares Silver Trust ( SLV ) was 1% higher.
