08:24 AM EDT, 05/20/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust ( SPY ) was down 0.1% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.2% lower in Tuesday's premarket activity as investors awaited commentary from US Federal Reserve officials following Moody's downgrade of the US credit rating.
US stock futures were mixed, with S&P 500 Index futures down 0.2%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures gaining 0.03%, and Nasdaq futures losing 0.2% before the start of regular trading.
Federal Reserve officials publicly speaking on Tuesday include Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin and Atlanta President Raphael Bostic at 9 am ET, St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem at 1 pm ET, and Governor Adriana Kugler at 5 pm ET.
In premarket activity, bitcoin was down by 0.6% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 0.5% lower.

The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLV ) advanced 0.3%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund ( VHT ) gained 0.4%, while the iShares US Healthcare ETF ( IYH ) and the iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) were inactive.
Weave Communications ( WEAV ) stock was down 3.6% premarket after closing Monday with a 2.9% fall. The company said late Monday it closed the acquisition of artificial intelligence-powered front-desk automation platform TrueLark.

UBS Group ( UBS ) shares were down more than 3% pre-bell Tuesday after Bloomberg reported the company is expected to lose its initial bid to ease a Swiss proposal requiring higher capital reserves for foreign subsidiaries.

Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) retreated 0.3%, and the iShares US Technology ETF ( IYW ) was flat, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF ( IGM ) was down 0.4%. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF ( XSD ) gained 0.02%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) declined 0.3%.
Pony AI (PONY) shares were up more than 3% pre-bell Tuesday after the company reported a narrowed Q1 non-GAAP net loss and higher revenue.

The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) was up 0.1%, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) was inactive. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF ( IYK ) was inactive, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) gained 0.1%. The VanEck Retail ETF ( RTH ) was inactive, while the SPDR S&P Retail ETF ( XRT ) advanced 0.2%.
Home Depot ( HD ) shares were up more than 2% pre-bell after the company posted higher fiscal Q1 net sales.

Gold futures for June advanced 0.3%, reaching $3,242.80 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures gained 0.7% to $32.74 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares ( GLD ) gained 0.2%, and the iShares Silver Trust ( SLV ) was 0.5% higher.
