Exxon Mobil Reportedly Sues California Over 2023 Climate Disclosure Laws
Oct 27, 2025 3:38 AM

06:29 AM EDT, 10/27/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Exxon Mobil ( XOM ) has sued the state of California, claiming that certain 2023 climate disclosure laws violate its First Amendment rights, particularly freedom of speech, news outlets reported.

The company filed its lawsuit Friday in the US Eastern District Court for California, seeking a court decision that would block the laws' enforcement next year, according to the reports.

In the lawsuit, Exxon Mobil ( XOM ) claims that Senate Bills 253 and 261 require it to adhere to the state's frameworks for climate reporting, which the company finds to be misleading and counterproductive, Reuters reported.

Exxon Mobil ( XOM ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
