12:01 PM EDT, 05/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US Energy Department has terminated 24 awards issued by the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations totaling over $3.7 billion issued during former President Joe Biden's administration, the department said Friday.
The cancellations include about $332 million award to an Exxon Mobil's ( XOM ) project at Baytown, Texas refinery complex, Reuters reported. Other terminations include $500 million to Heidelberg Materials, US in Louisiana and $375 million to Eastman Chemical (EMN) in Longview, Texas, the news report said.
"After a thorough and individualized financial review of each award, DOE found that these projects failed to advance the energy needs of the American people, were not economically viable and would not generate a positive return on investment of taxpayer dollars," DOE said in the statement.
Exxon Mobil ( XOM ), Eastman Chemical didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
