09:04 AM EST, 03/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US equity futures were little changed Friday as traders digested the pivotal monthly jobs report.
Dow Jones Industrial Average futures was flat, S&P 500 futures gained 0.3%, and Nasdaq futures rose 0.2%.
Oil prices were lower, with front-month global benchmark North Sea Brent crude down 0.3% at $82.73 per barrel and US West Texas Intermediate crude down 0.4% at $78.59 per barrel, erasing earlier gains after Hamas negotiators reportedly left truce talks in Cairo without a deal.
Nonfarm payrolls, released at 8:30 am ET, rose 275,000 in February following a 229,000 growth in January, ahead of estimates for a 200,000 increase. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate increased to 3.9% in February, compared with estimates for a no change at 3.7%.
In other world markets, Japan's Nikkei closed 0.2% higher, Hong Kong's Hang Seng ended 0.8% higher, and China's Shanghai Composite finished 0.6% higher. Meanwhile, UK's FTSE 100 fell 0.4% and Germany's DAX index declined 0.2% in Europe's early afternoon session.
In equities, shares of Samsara (IOT) were 13% higher pre-bell after the company reported improved fiscal Q4 financial results. Porch Group ( PRCH ) shares were up more than 31% after the company posted improved Q4 financial results.
On the losing side, Amylyx Pharmaceuticals ( AMLX ) shares slumped 82% after the company said its phase 3 study of a potential treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis failed to meet its primary endpoint. AerSale ( ASLE ) shares fell 20% after the company reported weaker Q4 financial results.
