First Solar, SunPower Shares Rise Amid Plan to Remove Tariff Exemption on Bifacial Panels
May 16, 2024 4:45 AM

07:26 AM EDT, 05/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- First Solar ( FSLR ) and SunPower's (SPWR) shares were advancing while NextEra Energy (NEE) shares were little changed in premarket activity Thursday after the Biden Administration announced it would remove tariff exemption on imports of bifacial solar panels.

Bifacial solar panels generally used in utility-scale solar projects were not subject to safeguard tariffs, resulting in a surge in imports, now making up nearly all U.S. solar panel imports.

The Biden Administration said its plans to remove this exclusion will offer U.S. solar manufacturers increased protection from unfair imports.

The government also announced further guidance concerning the domestic content bonus to enable more clean energy developers and manufacturers in the U.S. to take advantage of the bonus.

First Solar ( FSLR ) shares were 0.9% up and SunPower shares were 2.6% higher in recent premarket activity.

Price: 193.70, Change: +1.77, Percent Change: +0.92
