Fluor Ordered to Pay $450 Million to Santos by Australian Court Over LNG Project
Aug 11, 2025 5:44 AM

08:20 AM EDT, 08/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Fluor (FLR) said Monday that it acknowledged that the Supreme Court of Queensland, Australia ruled against the company in a lawsuit filed by oil and gas company Santos.

As a result of the decision, Fluor has been ordered to pay Santos 692 million Australian dollars ($450.5 million) "with further sums yet to be determined," Santos said in a separate statement.

Fluor said a final judgment by Queensland's Supreme Court is not expected until later this year.

According to Santos, the lawsuit stems from an engineering and construction contract between the two companies signed in 2011 to develop production facilities for a liquid natural gas project. Santos said it sued Fluor claiming that the engineering, procurement, and construction firm was not entitled to all the costs it claimed and the payment it received under the contract.

Fluor said the decision will have "wide-sweeping consequences in the engineering and construction industry." The company also said it is reviewing the decision as well as its response, including the timing of an appeal.

"We are also working with our insurance carriers to address the obligations arising from the final judgment," Fluor said.
