Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, has regained the top position on the 2023 Forbes list of India's 100 Richest, with a net worth of $92 billion. The cumulative wealth of India's 100 Richest individuals remained steady at $799 billion for the year.

In the previous year, Gautam Adani held the title of India's wealthiest individual. However, his fortunes took a significant hit due to a negative report by US short-seller Hindenburg Research, resulting in a sharp decline in his company's stock value. Although he has experienced some recovery, his net worth, inclusive of his family, has fallen to $68 billion. This represents the most substantial decline both in terms of dollar value and percentage, causing him to now occupy the second position.
“India is riding high and is considered a hot spot by global investors. That buoyancy has made the elite club of India’s 100 Richest even more exclusive this year, with the minimum net worth to make the cutoff rising to a record $2.3 billion,” said Naazneen Karmali, Asia Wealth Editor and India Editor of Forbes Asia, said.
Mukesh Ambani also reclaimed the title of the wealthiest Indian according to the recently released Hurun India Rich List for 2023. Over the years, Mukesh Ambani's wealth has surged from ₹165,100 crore in 2014 to nearly ₹808,700 crore, marking a four-fold increase.
This list was meticulously compiled using data on shareholdings and financial details gathered from families, individuals, stock exchanges, analysts, and India's regulatory bodies. Public fortunes were calculated based on stock prices and exchange rates as of September 22.
