08:25 AM EDT, 05/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Ford Motor Company ( F ) plans to assemble 300,000 units of a new model per year at its Almussafes, Valencia plant in Spain starting in 2027, Spain's Industry and Tourism Minister Jordi Hereu told journalists Friday, in a video published on Hereu's page on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
"We will maintain a line of work and collaboration with the company," Hereu said.
Ford, in an emailed response to MT Newswires, confirmed the minister's announcement:
"Ford is evolving its passenger vehicle portfolio in Europe aligned with the needs of customers. We have added an all-new, multi-energy passenger vehicle to our European product plan, to be manufactured in Valencia. As per the usual process, our teams are now engaged to secure full program approval. We have no further details to share at this time."
Earlier in March, Ford said it was considering manufacturing a new sports utility vehicle at the Valencia plant.
Ford employs a total of 5,400 employees at its plant in Valencia, according to its website.
