06:54 AM EDT, 08/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Ford Motor ( F ) has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling Explorer SUVs equipped with the Police Interceptor Utility package over fire concerns related to engine failure, the regulator said Thursday.

The recall affects 85,238 2020-2022 Explorer vehicles equipped with the Police Interceptor Utility Package.

"In the event of an engine failure, engine oil and fuel vapor may be released into the engine compartment and accumulate near ignition sources such as hot engine or exhaust components, possibly resulting in an engine compartment fire", the notice said.
