02:51 PM EST, 12/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Ford Motor's ( F ) commercial vehicle division Ford Pro said Wednesday it has teamed up with Southern Co. ( SO ) for a six-month pilot program to explore the operational benefits and needs of vehicle electrification for businesses.

The initiative will focus on optimizing depot charging, reducing electricity costs, enhancing vehicle uptime, and lowering the total cost of ownership. Insights gained from the pilot will help Southern create an electrification blueprint for its service areas, Ford Pro said.

Financial details of the collaboration weren't provided.

Ford shares were down 1.7% in recent trading, while Southern fell 1.3%.
