08:56 AM EDT, 04/12/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US auto safety regulators on Thursday opened an investigation to "evaluate the adequacy and safety consequences of the remedy" for a recall of nearly 43,000 Ford (F) sport utility vehicles.
The recall query by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration covers 2022 and 2023 model year Ford Bronco Sport and 2022 model year Ford Escape. Ford's recall, issued on March 8, states that the SUVs' fuel injector may crack, which may cause a fire under the hood.
The recall remedy under investigation involves an engine control software update and installation of a drain tube, but does not include replacing the cracked fuel injector.
Representatives for Ford did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
