03:15 PM EDT, 06/03/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Ford Motor ( F ) on Tuesday logged a double-digit percentage gain in US vehicle sales for May, as strength in the sport-utility vehicle component helped offset a drop in electric vehicles.
The automaker's total US sales jumped 16% year over year to 220,959 vehicles last month, with SUVs rising 25%. Truck sales increased 11%, while cars saw a 3.2% drop. By propulsion, hybrid vehicle sales surged nearly 29% to 22,719, while EVs slid 25% to 6,723. Internal combustion engine vehicle sales grew 17% to 191,517.
Ford shares were up 2.3% in Tuesday late-afternoon trade.
In April, the company said it was offering its employee pricing, or a discounted rate available to Ford workers, on certain vehicles to all US customers.
Among Ford SUVs, sales of the Bronco brand jumped 51% year over year in May, while Bronco Sport grew 46%. Expedition sales climbed 43%, Ford said Tuesday.
Ranger truck sales increased 34%, while the F-Series truck sales grew 15%. Maverick sales were up 14%. Lincoln brand sales soared 39% to 11,573, led by Navigator's 133% jump.
In the year through May, Ford's US vehicle sales have grown 6.1% year over year to 930,925, with hybrids up 31% and EVs down 8.3%, it said Tuesday.
Last month, the company posted better-than-expected first-quarter results, but it suspended its full-year guidance due to uncertainty tied to tariffs.
Global trade tensions were recently renewed after China's Ministry of Commerce accused the US of violating a preliminary deal reached between the two countries last month. President Donald Trump last week claimed that China violated the pact, under which Washington and Beijing agreed to suspend most tariffs on each other's imports for 90 days.
In April, Trump declared a 90-day pause on certain tariffs for countries that didn't retaliate to his reciprocal duties.
