Nov 26 (Reuters) - Four employees of Canada's Barrick
Gold ( GOLD ) have been detained in Mali, a top African gold
producer, amid increasing attempts by the military-led
government to impose additional taxes on mining firms, according
to two sources on Tuesday.
Mali is one of Africa's top gold producers and the detention
of foreign officials is becoming part of a pattern as the
government seeks to extract more income from the sector.
A spokesperson for Barrick did not immediately respond to a
request for comment.
