07:54 AM EDT, 06/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Fox's (FOX, FOXA) Fox News is facing a $787 million defamation lawsuit by California Governor Gavin Newsom over allegations that the network lied about his phone call with President Donald Trump regarding a recent immigration crackdown, news outlets reported Friday.
The complaint was filed in Delaware Superior Court, Reuters reported. The governor is also reportedly seeking compensatory damages for harm to his reputation.
"Governor Newsom's transparent publicity stunt is frivolous and designed to chill free speech critical of him," Reuters reported, citing a statement by Fox. "We will defend this case vigorously and look forward to it being dismissed."
Fox News did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
