01:31 PM EST, 11/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- GE Aerospace (GE) said Friday it is collaborating with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to conduct a series of unique flight tests aimed at understanding contrails and reducing non-CO2 emissions through test methods and technologies.
Financial details weren't disclosed.
The Contrail Optical Depth Experiment flights, scheduled to begin on Monday in Virginia, will use NASA's G-III aircraft to track GE Aerospace's Flying Test Bed and scan aircraft wake with Light Detection and Ranging, or LiDAR, technology.
For GE Aerospace, these tests introduce new operating methods for its 747 Flying Test Bed, to prepare for future flight tests of new engine technologies, which include the CFM International's Revolutionary Innovation for Sustainable Engines, or RISE program, aiming for 20% better fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions.
Shares of GE Aerospace were down 1.2% in recent Friday trading.
