11:08 AM EDT, 03/23/2026 (MT Newswires) -- GE HealthCare ( GEHC ) received clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for its new Photonova Spectra CT scanner.
The system uses a new type of silicon-based detector that counts individual X-ray photons instead of converting them into light first, helping the scanner capture cleaner, sharper images and show more detail in different types of tissue, the company said Monday in a statement.
The scanner also includes Nvidia ( NVDA )-powered (NVDA) computing hardware that can process far more data than traditional CT machines and automatically produce color-coded spectral images that help doctors tell materials and tissues apart more easily, GE HealthCare ( GEHC ) said.
The company said Photonova Spectra is part of its $5.1 billion innovation investment.
GE HealthCare ( GEHC ) plans to prepare for commercial availability in the US following the 510(k) clearance.
GE Healthcare ( GEHC ) shares rose 4% in Monday trading.
