03:07 PM EDT, 05/13/2024 (MT Newswires) -- General Motors' ( GM ) Cruise said Monday that its autonomous vehicles are set to start supervised autonomous driving in Phoenix this week as part of its plan to return to driverless operations.
After weeks of mapping and data collection, Cruise said it will now validate the vehicles' end-to-end behaviors against safety and performance standards. During this phase, the vehicles will operate with a safety driver present to monitor and intervene if needed, it said.
The initiative will initially roll out in Phoenix and gradually expand to Paradise Valley, Scottsdale, Mesa, Gilbert, Tempe, and Chandler measured against predetermined safety benchmarks, the firm said.
